JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Director, Platform Engineering blends a deep knowledge of leading-edge technologies and software engineering practices with a passion for developing a community of platform engineers across the enterprise. You will collaborate with other technology leaders and community members to develop our software engineering strategy, define standards, and implement modern cloud solutions and CI/CD automation processes. 

As the leader of this team, you will use leadership and hands on skills to drive best practices in software & system level design, coding, secure software practices, application frameworks, interfaces, testing, and deployments with the objective of continually improving the quality of our solutions, shortening delivery time, making it easier for developers in the field to deliver business solutions. 


 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

·    Develop and execute technology strategy, future state architecture, and roadmap for engineering capabilities and processes 

  • Influence organizational change to adopt industry standard engineering best practices 

  • Identify build once and reuse patterns across multiple applications that can be implemented in platform technologies 

  • Guide the design of platform engineering solutions with the platform engineering team 

  • Lead the platform engineering team 

·    Incubate new technologies and innovations that show promise for business value 

·    Design, build, and operate standard DevOps processes to ensure we have a streamlined and integrated tool chain and increase degree of automation across the CI/CD pipelines. 

·    Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation to increase quality of our cloud infrastructure deployments while lowering the TCO 

·    Build demonstratable prototypes for development and business teams 

·    Implement and promote best practices in software development including Agile Development, Behavior Driven Development, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Release Automation 

·    Design solutions to enable cloud, web, mobile, integration & contracts, and data solutions 

·    Partner with Technical Leads to promote adoption of standard tools 

Qualifications

·    Ten or more years of progressive experience in solution and system design, and engineering in a large, distributed computing environment. 

·    Understands object-oriented and architectural design patterns and programming by contracts 

·    Cloud Native Engineering (AWS or Azure) 

·     Understand and know when to apply the following architectural patterns; Microservice, Event Driven, Reactive, Service Oriented, and Layered 

·    DevOps tools and process implementation experience 

·    Advanced understanding of Agile principles 

·    A foundation of Software Engineering and hands-on expertise with 

o Serverless architecture (AWS Lamda or Azure Functions) 

o Modern HTML5 and Javascript-based web frameworks (e.g. React, Angular) 

o Building solutions using Node.js backend services 

o Enterprise Integration technologies and patterns including REST APIs, streaming Kafka, messaging protocols JMS/AMQPm, GraphQL 

o Designing and implementing containerized solutions using Docker and Kubernetes 

·    Knowledge on leading-edge concepts in technology including Web Technologies, Big Data, APIs, IoT, Mobile, Gen AI/ Machine Learning, Security, and Cloud Computing 

·    Committed people leader capable of developing others within your knowledge area to accelerate and achieve increased skill proficiency 

·    Able to work with co-located and distributed teams; experience working in a start-up environment is a plus. 

·    Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills to help in his/her interaction with a variety of stakeholders, ranging from developers to executives. Has developed very good facilitation, negotiation, and presentation skills. 

  

Desired education and or Certifications: 

·    Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering. 

·    Ten plus years of related experience. 

·    Microsoft Azure or AWS Certified Developer 

·    Agile Methodology certification (e.g. Lean, Scrum, Kanban and Scaled Agile, or SAFe). 

·    DevOps certification
