Understanding Patient Barriers to GLP-1 Therapy Adoption and Persistence
What prevents patients from starting or continuing glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) therapy? The answer extends beyond treatment access and medication tolerability.
In a cross-sectional analysis of 283 patients, artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled patient priority assessment was used to explore unmet needs among current, former and prospective GLP-1 users. Findings revealed that psychological and therapy-related challenges were prominent barriers, with distinct needs emerging across patient cohorts.
The research highlights opportunities for biopharmaceutical organizations to move beyond traditional patient education and develop more personalized engagement and support strategies.
